The plot twist, although expected, happens naturally and causes a strong impact. The story also seems reasonably convincing to the point where we don't question the progression of events. The situation is tense enough to keep us hooked on the film. Things get complicated starting from the middle of the movie. The mission is simple and, overall, little happens. The catch is that all this needs to happen under the hood. But things change with the possibility of being able to settle accounts with the criminal organization that rules a residential complex. Their day-to-day comes down to brushing ice, as we say in Brazil. They are from the Anti-Crime Brigade (BAC), a police department ruled by the sameness of being a shadow of organized crime. We quickly sympathize with the good guys: Greg, Yass, and Antoine. In Brazil, BAC Nord, The Stronghold in the United States, became BAC Nord: Under Pressure. Most of them use the original title with some silly subtitle.

In brief just a movie THAT MUST BE SEEN.īefore the review, I need to complain a little: I hate most of the titles they choose for the version published in Brazil. On how politicians and bureaucrats are worse than the criminals they are sending their troops to fight. Even the police does not make 2K a month are forced to use illegal resources to accomplish their tasks and provide success to their bosses I wont disclose the rest but as good as the first part of the movie is,the last act is a terrible statement of how the system abuse its own pawns.

It shows the misery and desperation on certain communities where people resort to crime to survive, within a system that does nothing to make things better but punish everyone who does not follow the rules. Most are people trying to make meets end or just trying to survive. As bad as the dealers are, these are not the cliched characters. Their own boss negates any knowledge of their procedures basically gets the glory but wash his hands.

Two months after celebrating the big victory, the tree policemen are accused of drug trafficking and incarcerated.

They persist with the plan get the info and a very big raid occurs (a 20 minutes plus scenes like you never seen before, Hitchcock and Spielberg take notes ) capturing a big shipment, money and the main bosses. Things get complicated when one of the dealers complains about losing customers and things get ugly. The solution, steal from buyers on the street. The police chief denies them the use of what they have as evidence because it will require a lot of paperwork and he does not want to complicate his life. A small dealer also snitch for one of the cops, heard about a big hit but wants five kilos of drug to provide the info. What are their benefits, perhaps one or two hundred more Euros a month and being recognized. Three underpaid policemen in North Marseilles are pushed by their boss to make a big arrest. The main change was that twelve policemen were accused instead of three. It's a well deserved 9/10 from me.Ĭontrary to what the message at the beginning says this is a true story. I'll be certainly recommending this little gem to everyone and most likely will watch it again. I've never heard of or seen any of these actors, but man did they bring their A-game. dubbed version) were excellent, and the casting and performances outstanding. The cinematography was great, the score and soundtrack (I saw the U. There were only a few questionable scene transitions and/or editing issues. The story was told really well and effectively. The 105 min runtime flew by with spot-on pacing. It sure is a rude awakening when you see how different politics, crime and policing can vary by country. You'll be on the edge of your seat for much of the film. The (true events) story was so well done and felt so realistic, you'd think you're right there where everything is happening. This film is newb French writer and director Cédric Jimenez's 5th notch on his resume, and did he ever hit it out of the ballpark. Don't expect this to be some huge Hollywood blockbuster film, it's actually much better than that.
